El Paso, TX to host Kraft Hockeyville USA preseason game

Hockeyville USA has picked its winner, and it’s El Paso, Texas! The Dallas Stars and Arizona Coyotes meet in a pre-season game on October 3.

Yesterday, the NHL and NHLPA announced that Hockeyville USA will host a pre-season game in El Paso, TX on October 3 at 7 p.m. MT at the El Paso County Events Center. This will be the only time Arizona and Dallas meet during the preseason, so it’s bound to be a fun game to watch!

Not only will the city host the pre-season game, it will also receive $ 150,000 in upgrades to the Kraft Heinz rink and $ 10,000 in new equipment from the NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund. The city rallied and proved itself the most hockey-focused city in America after garnering the most votes online in the competition.

It will be interesting to see the Arizona Coyotes play against the Dallas Stars, as they weren’t in the same division as the Dallas Stars until this year, when they were realigned to play in the division. Central, while the Kraken join the Pacific Division. They didn’t face the Dallas Stars at all last year, with the NHL only playing intra-division games due to COVID-19. It will be the first time they face the Stars since the 2019-2020 season.

In my opinion, the Dallas Stars are the strongest team, but the Arizona Coyotes have taken some interesting steps during the offseason that could strengthen their team and make them contenders against the Stars. While they lost their captain in the trade Oliver Ekman-Larsson / Conor Garland, they won Jay Beagle, Loui Eriksson and Antoine Roussel. They also got defenseman Conor Timmins from the Colorado Avalanche in return for Darcy Kuemper.

That leaves the Arizona Coyotes without a starting goalie, so it’s likely the preseason will be about determining which of their remaining goaltenders is good enough to be their starting goalie for the season. It will be interesting to watch the game between the Dallas Stars, who currently have four goalies at their disposal, and see them determine who their starting goalie will be.

Either way, it will be a fun game for the Arizona Coyotes and Dallas Stars, as well as the residents of El Paso! Tickets will be distributed by the local El Paso organizing committee.
