FASANOC mourns the death of longtime sports administrator Christopher Yee

The Fijian Sports Association and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) mourns the passing of Christopher Dard Keung Yee, affectionately known as Chris, who succumbed to COVID-19.

Yee was recruited in 2001 as the general manager of the Fiji team for the 2003 South Pacific Games.

He served as the Fiji team chef de mission at the 2012 Olympics, the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2004 and 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games.

Yee served as Deputy Chef de Mission / Team General Manager for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019 Pacific Games and the 2005 and 2017 Pacific Mini-Games.

In a statement, FASANOC said Yee has been a pillar of support for the Fiji team and FASANOC staff for more than two decades, having served 3 full 6-year terms on the FASANOC board as vice-president. president of finance from 2007 to 2013.

Yee has also played an important role in the development of several national federations, most notably as a long-time manager for weightlifting, squash and table tennis.

Since 2002, Yee has been a driving force for Fiji weightlifting and the development of the sport and its elite performance, having served as General Secretary, Vice President and Team Director.

Yee was also the heart and soul of Leylands Limited, selflessly serving the company for over 41 years. At the time of his death, he was managing director.

For his dedication and distinguished service to sport in Fiji, FASANOC conferred the Olympic Order of Fiji on Yee in 2014.

He was also recognized by the Fijian government last year for his contributions to the country when he was awarded the Fiji 50th Anniversary of Independence Medal.
