ITTF names Egypt and South Africa officials for Africa Cup – The Sun Nigeria
The world table tennis governing body, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), has named the Egyptian and South African officials for the upcoming Africa Cup which will take place in Lagos from May 26-28.
Egypt’s Mohamed El-Dawlatly is the competition director while Africa’s most experienced female referee, Genevieve Lentz of South Africa, will handle the proceedings at the elite continental tournament.
El-Dawlatly has been with the ITTF for years as he was part of the technical team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan; he has also participated in several international competitions around the world. He was the competition director of the Nigeria Open in 2018, while his experience will be on full display in Lagos when Africa’s best players converge on Nigeria’s commercial nerve center for the elite tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the WTT Cup Finals.
Like El-Dawlatly, Lentz was part of the ITTF refereeing team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics while she was a referee at the last World University Games in Italy. She will travel to Lagos as an experienced official.
According to the tournament prospectus, each country is expected to nominate two players each in the men’s and women’s events while host Nigeria will field four men and four women. Egypt, as the defending men’s and women’s champions, will have three men and three women for the event.
