PTTF unveils team for Junior Asian Int’l TT C’ship

PESHAWAR: Promising 17-year-old Ummam Khawjah from remote Chitral district Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been named as one of three members of Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming Asian International Junior Table Tennis Championship which will be played from 1 to September 6, 2022 in Laos, Vientiane.

This was stated by the General Secretary of the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF), Ijaz Ali Hazara, in an interview with APP here on Saturday.

He said a request has been made to Director General of Sports KP, Secretary of Sports KP and Chief Minister KP to extend the sponsorship to the visiting Pakistani team.

He revealed that Ummam Khawaja has a high chance of winning the Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship for Pakistan along with other players from Swat district Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Shah Khan and Abbas Khan.

He said that Ummam Khawjah (Chitral) is Pakistan No. 1, Shah Khan (Swat) is Pakistan No. 2 and Abbas Khan (Swat) is Pakistan No. 3, so a request was made to the Government of KP to support the Pakistani team for the Asian International Junior Table Tennis Championship.

All three players hail from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is a great honor for the province. The three players, hailing from KP, will represent Pakistan at the international event. Therefore, the KP government is requested to sponsor the travel expenses of these three. players,” said Ijaz Ali Hazara.

He said the request was made through a letter to the Chief Sports Officer, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to sanction the travel expenses of these three players to play their part in developing the game of table tennis in the country. Pakistan, especially in KP, so that these players can participate in international competitions.

He said it was a golden opportunity for the Pakistani junior players to win the International Junior Table Tennis Championship as all three players – Ummam Khawjah, Shah Khan and Abbas were in good form.
