Qatar to host the International Youth Star Contender
The International Youth Star Contender will be held in Qatar from March 7-11, 2022 at the Lusail Sports Arena.
This was announced by the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) on Sunday.
A separate category has been established for singles and doubles competitions for under 15s (boys and girls) as well as for singles and doubles competitions for under 19s (boys and girls).
The tournament will be held under the rules and regulations of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), the QTTA confirmed yesterday.
Senior players are selected based on highest ranking, most contested tournaments and international rankings, while in the preliminary rounds the lowest ranked entries will play international tournaments and matches. The registration period for participation in the tournament runs from January 20, 2021 to February 11, 2022.
The ITTF said in a statement: “The QTTA, led by Khalil bin Ahmed al-Mohannadi, is considered one of the best international federations. The tournaments organized by Qatar are always characterized by an excellent technical and administrative level as well as high attendance and participation of the best players from all over the world.
Meanwhile, the QTTA said yesterday that the Men’s Table Tennis League Championship for the 2021-2022 season will start from today at the Ras Abu Aboud Training and Preparation Center. The federation said the matches would take place under precautionary measures outlined by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to limit the spread of Covid-19.
A total of 5 matches will be played in the first round in which Al Sadd will face Al Shamal, Al Arabi will face Al Gharafa, Al Rayyan will face Al Wakrah and Al Ahli will face Al Khor. The competitions will continue uninterrupted with the second round matches starting tomorrow when Al Sadd take on Al Wakra, Al Arabi take on Al Khor and Al Rayyan take on Al Ahli.
