Club Matters is a program funded by Sport England Lottery which provides free resources, support, advice and workshops for:
· Grassroots sports clubs, community groups and organizations.
· The professional workforce that supports grassroots sports clubs, groups and community organizations.
Club Matters resources are designed to support organizations looking to create, develop, grow, reach new communities, and maximize their engagement with new and existing members, participants, and volunteers. Whether you are part of a large, small, formal or informal group, or work to support the development of these organizations, Club Matters is here to help.
Involving women and girls
Last week was International Women’s Day, and the theme for the day was #BreakTheBias, encouraging people to work towards a society free of prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination. Preventing these issues is key to creating positive and inclusive environments and cultures in community sport organizations. It is therefore very important to understand the needs and factors affecting different groups of people.
To support clubs/groups in this area, the Club Matters ‘Engaging women and girls’ webpage explores the motivations and barriers of young girls, adolescent girls and women in sport and activity, drawing on research conducted by Sport England and Women in Sport. The infographic on increasing women’s sport participation gives some advice, while the Club Natters podcast episode covers the rise of women’s sport and attracting more women and girls to clubs/groups, with the help from some experts.
